The Amuri Pistol Club is located amidst rural Canterbury farmland about 2 hours drive from Christchurch. The club has been established for more than two decades and prides itself on its close-knit membership and superb safety record.
The explosion of interest in the sport of pistol shooting in our area in recent times has seen our club membership increase by more than 50%. Amuri Pistol Club Inc is a member of Pistol NZ, the governing body of pistol shooting in New Zealand.
Requirements for a Pistol Shooting Licence
Become a member of a pistol club affiliated to Pistol NZ.
Finish a six month probationary period, during which you will need to attend a minimum of 12 club events.
Obtain an A category (rifle and shotgun) firearms licence.
Demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of pistols on your club range.
Buy and install a pistol safe. This must be of 6mm steel, with approved locks and bolted to two surfaces (floor and wall). More information is available from your local NZ Police Firearms Office.
Participate actively in Club activities.
Obtain a B category (pistol) Application Form and submit it to the club for approval.
Police inspections, interviews and referee checks will follow, including annual inspections of your security and recording of firearms.
On receipt of your B category endorsement you will need to take part in at least 12 pistol club activities per year to maintain your licence.
